Automated E. coli, Yeast, Mold and Salmonella Safety Test on the JANUS G3 PCR Workstation

Introduction

Cannabis, like any product destined for human consumption, must be screened for the presence of microbial contamination. Many governing bodies require that flower, extracts, and edibles undergo microbial safety testing prior to sale. While culture-based methods are often used, they do not support microbial differentiation. For this reason, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is the preferred method. As it is faster, more accurate than plating and organism specific.

The Medicinal Genomics® PathoSEEK® microbial safety testing assay for detection of Escherichia coli (E. coli), yeast, mold, and Salmonella provides a fully validated qPCR solution to screen cannabis extracts, cannabis flower and infused products for microbial contamination. In this study we automated this microbial safety testing kit on the JANUS G3 PCR workstation.
